Growing up, I struggled with bumpy skin - every time someone would look at me, I knew they were staring at the texture of my face. One time, my skin even got compared to the surface of the moon. Closed and open comedones were the bane of my existence, and no matter how many over-the-counter products, facial extractions, or diet changes I would do, nothing would work. It was quite defeating, really, but I would always say - thank God for make-up (so I could hide behind the pain).
I have been fortunate to live and visit many parts of the world. From multiple cities in the US, Bahrain, South America, South Africa, and now, the United Kingdom, my skin often reacted differently in these regions. In the US, it remained bumpy, but surprisingly, in Bahrain, South America, and South Africa, it cleared up. Peculiar, isn’t it? It was here that I realised that environmental factors, genetics, diet, products, and lifestyle all play a role in how our skin looks.
I moved to London, UK, after receiving a scholarship to study MedTech, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at King’s College London. I was excited to 1) be in another country, and 2) use my passion for medicine, skin, and innovation to create something that would help those who struggled with their skin, just like me. It was here when I got bullied, yet again, for how my skin looked, leaving me in tears. But those tears have led to the founding of Reflect Health.
My co-founder, Arjun, and I decided to work together because we both struggled with imperfect skin - we had the same pain point and knew many who had it too. Our team grew from Arjun and me, adding Professor Prashant Jha and Balaji Teegala, both experienced in medicine, research, health tech, and engineering.
So today, we invite you to join us to be part of Reflect Health, an AI digital health tool to assess if your products actually work for your unique skin type. Let’s decode your skincare, and help you own your routine.
